5 months yesterday
and counting. So, dress, rooms, flowers, baloons and chocolate fountain we've ordered. We've yet to order cake, the suits, favours and other assorted bits, as well as invites. Because we've got about 100 people we'd like to invite, and room for only 75, then we've got to whittle down the list and get the invites out, but there is a reason for my post. We need music ideas for the ceremony and first dance.
We're going to send out 'RSVP with two or three tunes you'd like to play on the night' (saves the requests for the DJ :) but we need some music whilst people are mingling, when the tones is arriving and just after etc. We've got some classical tunes (pachobel, queen of sheba etc) but we're not that impressed with some of them. I don't know if any of you guys have some classical tastes, or (dean) something like sigur ross may fit nicely, but I haven't got their album.
Any thoughts appreciated, apart from "sabbafff" etc.

Girl from Ipanema
Or any Mancinni. Can't go wrong with that.
What, henry mancini? Didn't he do the pink panther? The theme tune that is, not actually bum the pink panther.
Sue says "You bastard! you are nicking all our ideas! Stop reading the same bridal books and magaines as us!"
However I would say asking your audience for requests beforehand is a good idea; which we'd already had you git!
For Bridal music might I direct you to Aaron Coplands' Appalachian Spring or Puccini's Madame Butterfly.
On the Sigur Ros front - why the hell would anyone not own this record; it is amazing! I would commend you listen to Takk un full and suggest Glosoli, Se Lest or Milano may work well as aisle music.
On the popular front check the soundtracks for The Passion of Christ (Peter Gabriel), Braveheart (James Horner) or The Mission (Ennio Morricone).
We'll also be asking people what they don't want to hear. And we also have our DJ sorted, He's the Punk and Indie DJ from Rio's and a close mate of ours; if you'd like him to do your event I'm sure we can convince him!
ha ha ha. Thanks, but I'm not nicking your ideas, but great minds and all that. :)
Have dl'd sigur ros' albulm(s), and I quite like takk, but toni's not into it at all, whatsoever. I think I will buy it though cos I quite like the stuff they do. Still, not suitable for wedding music though.
I was also thinking soundtracks, but not braveheart. Some stuff from LOTR maybe, but tones doesn't want the star wars theme. :(
Having said that, I think its a bit tainted now. :)
BTW, I didn't get the idea of asking guests what music they like from a wedding book, as I don't really read them. Because we were originally having Dan as the DJ, we was just going to upload a list of all our songs to his ipod and get on with it, then that progressed into what the guests wanted (but some requests we just won't do i.e. gimme some, oops upside your head, superman etc. You know the cheesy disco tunes that all my older relatives love. They don't get out much bless em. :)
Then we didn't want Dan fretting about his pod and just get pissed and decided to ask the DJ at the cricks cos he's got a laptop and just pipes it all through that. We haven't asked him yet. And as for your mate, he probably lives a bit too far for us, but thanks anyway and I will point tones towards the post. :)
Me and Jen are also compiling our wedding day music (for September) at the moment. We're just going for songs we really like that represent different feelings we have. Two examples are the The Monkeys - I'm a believer and Bowling for Soup - Girl all the bad guys want. Thats for background type of stuff while we have the wedding breakfast.
We're just going to have the wedding march for the aisle music I think though.
