MTV, what does the M stand for again?
Had MTV on the telly all day. What a waste of time. Luckily, found a stream of it, think someone just plugged BBC2 radio into an encoder or something.
Thing that blew me away, there was no music!!! After 1 1/2 hrs, maybe 2, there'd been 3 songs played. Rest was commercial breaks, 20something VJ's breathlessly gushing how wonderfull this all is, promises of amazing acts later, interviews with people, and lots of studio time between hosts.
NO ACTUAL ACTS.
Was driving me nutty. It started to pick up, then for some reason, we had Greenday on twice, with repeats of tracks, Bon Jovi repeated twice, Jay flippin Z, and Destiny's Child. And I think that's it.
Why don't they just drop the M part of MTV? Can't something be done under trade descriptions act or something?

There was some discussion about this on some msg boards, and some people were v. pissed off, but mainly because they interrupted Pink Floyd with adverts. They put up with it most of the time, as you don't mind coldplay being interrupted by a few adverts or the bryan admas performance being edited out. You can handle this, but when the floyd get cut into for mobile ringtone ads, understandably people are gonna get very angry. Fortunately, we had the bbc coverage which was OK.
and another thing about the gushing. You are right that there was a lot of "ooh what a great day, we can make a difference", but the most indepth it got was a child dying every three seconds because it can't get drugs we've got. There was no elaboration on why they don't get the drugs, and no actually in depth arguments about the problems in africa and the causes, but a lot of time with bands saying what a great time they had and young girls fawning over seeing coldplay. :(
Still, first I've heard "I think they in the mood for some motherfucking G Shiiiitttt" on BBC1 on a saturday tea time. :)

Good grief, sounds like Antiques Roadshow has really gone downhill lately.
Didn't watch it. Agree with the sentiments, but musically pretty well completely uninterested; plus it doesn't really present the argument the converted would like to see and the mass crowds were there for the show and the sentiment, not to do anything. I like how people have assumed the "anarchists" at gleneagles are something to do with Geldof's campaign, they aren't, they were gonna be there first as they are at every G8 conference trying to kick up a storm against capitalism...
