Meh.
Had a unit on display in the local Bestbuy.
Graphics seem ok. Lots of bump mapping, smooth(ish, the castle game they had running had a couple of stutters with massive scene change).
Nothing that even a mid range pc wouldn't handle with ease.
Controllers usual stuff (rebadged Dreamcast). They'll have the headstart over the ps3, but unless drastic stuff happens, not impressed so far.
The racing game thingy looks ok, but not my thing and it's not hard to make them look good. Even Burnout Legends on Psp looks great to me. Bit of environmental reflection and I'm happy.
Funny enough, the new nintendo thingy with the wacky controller looks like more fun to me. If they get it working right (as reports are coming in that they are), the first StarWars game with a lightsabre is going to pwn.

Oh yeah, there was some Socom game thingy.
HDR looked good, but those games just don't interest me on a console. You can't beat a keyboard/mouse.
Once again, gfx looked ok. Nothing special.
Thats the XBox all over though, but its easy for simpletons to use. :)
A friend asked me should he get the Xbox or PS3, as he bought the nintendo last time, and got let down. I told him get MAME. :)
I think nintendo have lost a lot of ground to Sony and M$, and I really hope that the new console will bring back some form of originality to the gaming world, and its the only one I can buy now. :|
I'm not, or never intended to buy M$, and after several knackered Playstations, a TV, DVD, car stereo, video and other assorted bits of sony kit fcking up, I vowed I'd never buy another bit of sony. This has only been strengthened by the very recent "copy protection"/rootkit/spyware debacle.
You know the only kit of Sony I've got thats actually lasted? The Betamax vcr I've got upstairs. It was made before the days of built in redundancy. :)
I've never had a problem with my limited selection of Sony kit (personal stereo, PS2 and some now retired speakers). Maybe you're just prone to duff kit Wez?
