Was a bit windy yesterday...

It ended up being at miniscus level on the doorstep, had to go out, water up to my bits, find the storm drain (in the dark, in a hurricane, with only a large stick) and clear out the leaves. It kept the water level constant, but a couple doors down, they're flooded out bad. Spent a few hours fighting with sandbacks and sweepign out as much water as possible. Their porch was seriously flooded, which was where his computers were... Seeing their porch flooded that back reminded me, and I dashed back and found I've now got an indoor swimming pool.
Winds reached a max of 93 mph, 4inches of rain per hour, expected to be a 13 inches by the morning. Cars on the road, the water is over their headlights. Power still down for rest of the island, and there's some sirens going off. The sky is being lit up with what I initially thought was lightning, but with no thunder means it must of been the transformers popping.
Took a load of piccies with my camera phone, but was too dark to see a thing.
Bosses house is flooded a foot deep in the living room apparently.
Didn't wander far, but a few trees down and an awful lot of wreckage scattered about. Might scavenge a few coconuts for later or something.

Back to you in the warm, dry, studio.

well 55 dead, but mostly old people. Is that because they can't hang on to lamposts in the wind?? Thats what everyone does isn't it? I've seen it in the movies! :)

More pics please robo, although if you could just pop 'down the road' to new orleans to check out the damage tar. :)

Wandered around the day after but my camera phone is sucky.
Couple of trees over here and there but not that many, probably the ones at risk toppled over last hurricane 2 months ago.
Few of the underground garages got flooded to bits. Mate of boss had his care written off, flooded up to the arial.
All pretty quiet here really, we got the rains but there's only so high the waters can get on an island that the furthest bit from the sea is about 300 yards. Storm surge wouldn't of been good, but overall, we did ok.
New Orleans is looking really bad. Probably the same news over here that you'll see over there.
Talk about setting the scene for a Made for TV plot though...
Hurricane sweeps through, levee breaks, looters in the street, everyone taking refuge in the SuperDome, roof blowing off, prisoners in the local prison have rioted and taken hostages. Disaster movie in the works methinks. Other options;
Insulin needed for little kid, only doc in town is trapped under a tree with waters rising
Local zoo, waters rising, has seen wild animals wandering around looking for food amongst the water, our heroes have to deal with rabid Koala bears (or something).
Rising waters have brought the crocs to town, this place belongs to them now...
Too much material

"Mr president, we need help fast! Bring in the army!"
"well, er, its the worst natural disaster in our short history, but, er, the army are a bit busy at the mo. pop back next week love alright?" :|

I was reading about New Or-Lee-ans, (as everyone is pronouncing it over here now) about how its a swampy basin, and that they built a city 10 metres below sea level, and to stop this happening again they either put the houses on stilts of some form, fill the basin with mud, or just move new orleans 10 miles up the road, which reminded me of the simpsons episode where they built a new springfield as the old one turned into a tip.

Robo, buy a camera. Hurricayne seas'n 'aint over yet boy!
