Star Wars - EPIII
A mate bought a bunch of tickets, so off we trooped to see Star Wars last night.
I'm somewhat the worse for wear now, having had all of three hours sleep before getting up for work; but I can at least report that it is...
....
....
Actually, quite good.
Now, lets be fair (and I won't spoil the plot for you), the acting is often very wooden, particularly in scenes between Anakin and Padme, the dialogue does them no favours though, being hackneyed enough to make Barbara Cartland blush (were she not dead anyway). There are a few truly laughable moments though - The robot doctor's prognosis on Padme, the name given to young Jedi to name but two. The CG is better though and a little less freneticaly edited, so you can get a handle on what is going on. The plot moves along reasonably well, and ties up all the loose ends you are likely to want. Best performance is Emperor Palpatine, surely steals the show.
Overall I'd give it a solid 7.5/10

My two penneth now! First of all, its not good to say its better than the last two, they were crap, and most films would have been better than the last two.
Generally, it was alright, not great. 5/10.
The dialogue isn't worth mentioning, but there were enjoyable bits such as the intro space scene, and I personally liked the Obi/Grevious scene, if only for my favourite character of that thing obi rides. :)
Its a film for kids but it was a 12, because of some 'dark' scenes apparently. It was, and will be, a kids film. Trying to make it a bit darker doesn't work, and if GL will persist in doing kids films, he should stick to the U rating.
There are lots of plot holes and bad bits (NOOOOOooooo), but I've disregarded these under the label of 'entertainment'. Since I heard midichlorians again I turned off. The comedy that is attempted is more like laughing at your dads jokes, but I will say the improvement of the CG is a lot better, and yoda looks beautiful.
I wouldn't go see it again, and I probably won't be owning them on DVD, but maybe at christmas. In summary - matrix III.
Even after all of this though, I still want a lightsaber.
George is the god of big cinema. HE created the sound, HE created the cg and HE reinvented the modelling. Almost singlehandedly.
To be honest, he could have made 3 cutesy comedy movies with canned laughter and I probably still want a lightsaber. Thats how much burned into my psyche is star wars, and it always will be. Thats one of george lucas's crowning achievements, and always will be. I think there will be 3 more films. Just let peter jackson direct them. :)
I'm waiting for the Kevin Smith TV series that's being rumoured aroundabouts. Now that would be something:
"Snoogans Darth! me and my fat love buddy Silent Bob here are gonna totally kick your ass for Episodes 1&2."
